Hello, fantastic videos for years, and i come to you with a stumper for me. Only have Fusion360 personal use, so Inventor 'Rip" not possible I have a full 3D model I downloaded of an actual TIRE and complex tread pattern!!! there is no flat surface that is parallel to anything else (From the thingaverse website, you could use this tire as the example thing:1360332 ps. its a mesh body tire model) (not the one I'm working on) All I want from it is to "peel the tread" design OFF the tire, and make it flat, so I can make an extrude/cut into another object. Was thinking i might be able to do this with a Sheet Metal UNFOLD, or flat design, but, because the tire has no common flat area, I can't seem to do it. I'm trying to do the exact OPPOSITE of what Michellin tire does in a YT video titled MICHELIN Retreading Process posted by Matthew Backhouse seen at mark 1:27+ Thanks

Your second attempt was really close to working. When I saw this video I immediately downloaded your model because I wanted to check a hunch. If you use Delete Face on the 6 faces where the bosses meet the main body, the cylinders will become aligned again. Make sure to do it in the Solid tab, you don't want to make it a surface model.

My computer calculated each operation related to the honeycomb pattern for about 10 minutes :))) That is about 40 minutes of time were spent on this entire video including the calculation of the pattern plus the modeling itself :))) Thank you very much!

Why not just expand a copy of the hammer, and subtract the original from the center, and then slice the plane to cut the shell in half?

I’ve been using fusion semi professionally for years and at some point even teaching it. I did not know the rib tool could be used like this but remember at least five instances where trying to do exactly this has caused me immense frustration.

How to rotate and move the view around so smoothly?

How did you do the motion in the first segment? Motion along a path?

I tend to CTRL-Z my way out of a sketch i don't want to avoid clutter

Thank you, that was really helpful. Side note: I just have the top half of the options in the rib menu. It begins to get very confusing in Fusion if in such cases just an update is missing or if it is just not in the maker / hobbyist license. I wish they would offer at least for the updates an option for us to get the updates as soon as possible if we want to, instead of the slow rollouts that sometimes take weeks or months for some. It could also help if we could see all options in the maker version, but have the features we can't use grayed out. That would make watching educational videos much more consistent and lead to less confusion.

Thanks so much! This is a scenario that I have encountered and I never thought of using the rib command.

One can never get enough useful examples (and re-explanations) of the rib command. I’ve had situations like that shown here and Rib never crossed my mind-just arbitrary extrusions and subtractions.

Hope you can gain something from this very short video. The name of a command can often constrain our thinking. In this case, the flange is not exactly a "rib" in the typical sense of the word. But by understanding how a command works, we can deploy it in unlikely scenarios. Whenever there is a need to create material that conforms to a curved face, it is good to keep the rib and web commands in mind.

I have been waiting for this feature for years! It's extremely hard (nigh on impossible sometimes) to emulate. Knowing something as simple as the exact space an opening door would traverse should now be easily solvable and that's only a very simple example (for those who think it's just an arc, a door has thickness and the arc will only yield an approximation).

This is exactly the tool I've been looking for. I am trying to sweep a very complicated stl file through a solid to create a sort of mold. My issue is that the program crashes anytime i try to do it. I can't recreate the body stl natively. Does anyone know how to work with large compilated models without crashing?
